My WONDERFUL, FABULOUS, photographer friend Tracy was out in LA this past month conveniently right after we had our new little guy, Shepherd.  I was soo pumped when she suggested coming down for a couple days and exchanging family sessions on the beach.  Her and I knew each other in college but didn’t become close until about a year before I moved.  Her work is stunning!!!  All these amazing images are HERS.  I was totally thrilled with the way they turned out!!  Totally in love and am super excited to get some of these favorites plastered all over my home!  If you’re from the Bloomington area… check out her work!!  www.fullyalivephotography.com

p.s. MAD props to my steller husband who did this whole shoot on his BIRTHDAY.  Rallying two kiddos, hiking down to the beach, and taking tons of family photos was not quite what he had in mind when thinking of what he’d like to do for his birthday.  But he’s a champ and did it all without complaining 🙂  Love him.

Shepherd apparently wasn’t too thrilled about this photoshoot either.  Typical boy.  Either that or Elyse was being a little too lovey for him.

This next picture is my favorite of me and Shep.  I just love the light!

Quite a stud if I don’t say so myself.  He was two months at this shoot.

I will mention how good looking my husband is…. particularly in the picture on the right!  yes, 33 Years old looks pretty good on him indeed 🙂

Love the one below…. oh how I adore this image of our family.

Elyse doesn’t get all that good looking blonde hair from me that’s for sure.

I was very impressed with Tracy and her ability to get smiles out of Elyse.  Our girl is pretty tight lipped around my camera most days… she probably sees it in her face way too often 🙂

This one is my most favorite.  Even Shep looks like he has a tiny smile!!  It just might make it to a large canvas on our wall.

This was the part of the session where our children started to fall apart.  We had to try extra hard just to get them to pay attention!

A lot of fun we had for sure…. what these pictures don’t show is the MELT DOWNS both our children had on the drive home.  *sigh*  It was a long day 🙂

THANK YOU TRACY.  We will treasure these images FOREVER.  So blessed to have you as a friend.  Much love to you…. and you best be back to visit soon!!  🙂

A lot has happened the last 6 months since I was actively taking on new sessions.  We moved to California… had our adorable little boy Shepherd… and have been settling in here finally feeling like I can let my hair down and just relax a little.  While I’m not all up on the marketing bandwagon trying to book a lot, I have slowly begun to shoot around a little more.  I’m starting to get anxious to find all the new locations and photograph this beautiful light I always hear other photographers talk about.  Meanwhile, I have had the chance to do some sessions for fun which I’ll be blogging about in the next couple weeks.  The first I wanted to share was of a family that I was close with in Bloomington!  Tracy is another photographer that was up in LA for a conference with her husband, Nate, and their little boy, Mateo.  I was pumped when they decided to come down to San Diego for a visit – and so of course, we had to exchange sessions.

We picked gorgeous Cornado beach to land for the shoot… but since we spent the day at the zoo, we got there a little later than planned and the sun had just begun to go behind some low clouds.  Though a little bummed, it didn’t disappoint.  This blog is of their fam and I’ll be blogging the photos she got of mine later 🙂  (She freaking rocked it.)

Check out her gorgeous work (which I’ll be raving about more when I blog the ones she took of us) at www.fullyalivephotography.com.

How adorable is their little guy?  After spending the day with him, I can safely say I think he might be the only baby I’ve met that’s “busier” than my little girl.  He kept them on their toes for sure.

I love these next images.  The light was gorgeous.

My favorite below…

This session moved fast… We were swapping kids and cameras around like crazy ladies trying to catch the light and the expressions.  Mad props to both our husbands for being such good sports.

  • Great job as usual Jamie! So glad to see you getting back at it!

  • Great job as always Jamie! So glad to see you picking up that camera again. 🙂

  • OMG I LOVE THEM ALL Jamie!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe how many good shots we got with only like 30 minutes to shoot!!!!! This was one of the best experiences to see what my clients go through anxiously awaiting fun photos to pop up online! It feels so good to be on the other side of the lens & your’ work is beautiful! Thanks for capturing this moment for us! Love you!

In the midst of our move to San Diego, I came across my old hard drives from my weddings back when I had just begun.  Yes.  WAY back in the day.  2008 actually was when I shot my very first wedding… (has it really only been 4 years??)

Sooo, I dug up the files from my first few sessions ever along with the very first wedding I had ever done.  Eeek.  I like to think I’ve improved. (no judging please!) But my brave friend Julie graciously allowed me to take the plunge into my career and shoot her gorgeous wedding – with absolutely no experience.  NONE.  I was terrified, but left knowing I’d found my love.  Photography.  I thought I’d post a few from their wedding– The rest is history.

One more note.  Julie & Evan had 11 bridesmaids and 11 groomsmen!!!  For real.  Talk about trial by fire! 🙂

  • Hi Jamie. this post was just what I need to stumble on. A relative said I could shoot their engagement shots. They don’t want to pay for pictures really, so I’m thinking of offering their wedding too… we’ll see. It was just perfect to read that a friend let you shoot their wedding as your ‘trial’ run. Of course, your pictures are beautiful and i love them. and i’m now popping onto every single photographer blog i’ve heard of to get ideas for engagement. any tips for an amateur’s first run!? 🙂

For those of you who don’t know, my family and I just recently transitioned from flatlands of Illinois to the sunny, mountainous southern California!  While my business will come to a halt for a little while, it will pick up slowly but surely after we get settled and adjusted to the new location as well as our growing family (baby #2 due December 2nd!!).  Just wanted to give everyone a heads up!  While I have been sooo thankful to my faithful client base in Illinois, I won’t be taking on any more weddings this next year in Illinois.  Thank you to all my clients and referrers who have allowed me to do what I’ve loved the last four years!  Keep checking out my blog and facebook for current updates, sales, and images!!

And one for the road.  My favorite engagement couple of the year!

Much love,
Jamie

Luke and Amy sat on our couch and were telling us all about their wedding.  We’ve known them for four years now as they’ve been apart of the college ministry my husband has led.  Amy was in my small group as a wee little freshman, so it was amazing to see her blossom into this gorgeous bride.  I knew their wedding was going to be beautiful from the minute they started talking about it…. Amy has a very classy and artistic taste, so her wedding style reflected just that.

Luke’s sweet anticipation for Amy coming down that aisle was priceless.

They hosted their reception in a tent right outside the gorgeous Ewing Manor.  We parked and headed over for some more photos of the bridal party and the two of them!

I didn’t really anticipate Amy ACTUALLY throwing her bouquet in the air.  Thankfully it was caught and safe.

And… look at all those stud guys!
